Founded in 1938 in Tegal by Tan See Giam, Tong Tji, originally known as Teh Dua Burung, began as a small home-based business using traditional tools like charcoal stoves and bamboo pots to create unique tea blends. Over the years, under the leadership of the third generation, Tatang Budiono, Tong Tji grew to become the largest tea producer in Indonesia.

In the early 1990s, Tong Tji introduced its first jasmine tea bag, which quickly became a leader in the Jasmine Tea Bag category in both traditional and modern markets across Indonesia.
